Social Encounter

Half-day experience of flavor, solidarity, and shared humanity

This experience invites you to discover how food can become a language of connection, dignity, and care. Over one meaningful morning in San Cristóbal de Las Casas, gastronomy opens a doorway to encounter — between cultures, generations, and life stories woven by resilience.

You will walk through living traditions, cook side by side, and share the table as equals. More than a culinary activity, this journey honors the power of collective nourishment — of bodies, spirits, and futures.

    Itinerary

    DAY 1

Your morning begins at the indigenous market of San Cristóbal de Las Casas, a vibrant and sensory space where colors, aromas, and indigenous voices reflect the living heart of the region. Guided by a local expert, you walk through the bustling aisles, learning about traditional ingredients, local food practices, and the cultural significance behind everyday products. Together, you select fresh ingredients to prepare a dish from your own country — a gesture of openness and exchange.

With your baskets full, you continue to Chantiik Taj Tajinkutik, a social initiative that supports teenagers and young adults who have worked in the informal street economy, offering them education, structure, and new life opportunities. Here, the kitchen becomes a shared space of trust. You cook together, exchange stories, laugh, and sit down to enjoy a meal prepared collectively — a moment where differences dissolve and common humanity takes center stage.

After lunch, you join the project’s community bakery, where you help prepare small snacks. These are later distributed to local street children, extending the circle of care beyond the table and into the city.

The experience closes with a quiet yet powerful feeling — the understanding that a simple act, like cooking together, can ripple outward into real social impact.
